Climate Change Creative Writing Competition

Back to Oversy website

Climate change: The North East Coast of the United States of America was under a fierce attack of the super hurricane Sandy on the 29th October 2012. Images shown on TV across the world resembled those of the film “2012”, where climate change and its consequences were depicted. The impact of changes in the climate has become obvious to us all. As we notice floods, heat waves, food riots, migration, yet awareness amongst people around the world is still relatively low, particularly amongst the poorest people who are the most affected and will be in the near future. What are we going to do about it? This question has become a rhetoric one.

Our mission is to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change and support organisations to turn carbon reduction ideas into reality.

Oversy is running a creative writing competition encouraging people to write about climate change.

Imagine: It is now 2030. The world has experienced many developments including the advancement of technology. What impact does climate change have on the lives of poor people around?

You can write about the impact on a family or on the lives of whole communities, about food, migration, flooding, or heat waves. Your story should be imaginative but close to the reality of what is likely to happen.

You may submit as many stories as you like.

All stories submitted must be an original work of the entrant. Please put this line at the beginning of your work: The story that follows has been written by, and is entirely the work of, Name Surname. Copyright of each story remains with the author, but Oversy has the unrestricted right to publish the winning stories.

Your works must be submitted electronically to the following e-mail address:
competitions@oversy.org.

Each story should be not more than 1500 words on any aspect of the theme of Climate Change. Do not forget to put your name, contact details and titles of all stories submitted in the e-mail. We support .doc and .pdf formats.
