Floods bringing Death and Devastation
Heavy showers are typical for the Caucasus Mountains region especially in summer months, but this year is unprecedented.
The 9th of July is declared The Day of Mourning in the Russian Federation. The tragedy which took lives of 171 people happened on Friday night. The region received two months’ worth of rain. Showers flooded several towns in the Krasnodar Region including Gelenjik and Krymsk. The town of Krymsk has been worst hit by a flood overnight. Rains were accompanied with thunders and lightening. Thousands of people are left without shelter and hundreds of injured (320 people) have been evacuated to the neighboring regions for medical support.
